The usual activity status of the aged person during the major part of his/her working life were collected here. The usual activity status were recorded in codes as follows :
Self employed in : Agriculture........ 1
Non-agriculture.... 2
Regular wage/salaried employee......... 3
Casual labour in : Agriculture........ 4
Non-agriculture.... 5
For the persons who have pursued one type of activity throughout his/her working life, assigning appropriate code will not pose any difficulty. But for the persons who have pursued more than one type of activity, assigning appropriate code may pose some problem. For them the activity pursued for the major part of the working life were obtained and appropriate status code for the activity is was recorded. For example, for the major part of working life a person was employed, say, in regular wage/salaried job. After retirement, he/she was again working in self employed capacity in agriculture and then withdrew from economic activity. For this person the appropriate usual activity code is 3.
